Driver age requirements
What age may I learn to drive?
For the purpose of learning to drive a car, a person who does not possess a valid driver license may practice driving on New Hampshire roadways as long as the below conditions are met:
- The driver must be at least 15years 6 months old and must carry proof of age in the vehicle.
- The person learning to drive must be accompanied by a parent, legal guardian, or other responsible licensed adult 25 years of age or older.
- The vehicle used for practice must be a non-commercial vehicle.
When is Driver Education required?
Drivers education is helpful for anyone who wants to learn to drive. It is required for anyone under the age of 18 who wishes to apply for a New Hampshire drivers license.
Needed Documents
What documents are needed for drivers education?
All students shall present proof of age in the form of a birth certificate or valid passport. No photo copies will be accepted.
Classroom
What is the policy for missed classroom hours?
No classroom hours shall be missed during the 30 hour classroom session unless determined by the instructor to be good cause. Absence shall not exceed 4 hours. If the student misses more than 4 hours, they will NOT be allowed to return to that class. The student will be allowed to attend a subsequent class within 6 months as availability allows. After 6 months, tuition in full will be due again.
How long is classroom instruction?
Drivers ed classroom is a required thirty (30) hours. You must be present for all thirty (30) hours to successfully complete the classroom instruction.
What grade do I need to get to pass classroom instruction?
Students must receive an average grade of 75% or higher on each unit to begin the next unit, an average of 75% or higher for all class assignments, and a grade of 75% or higher on the final exam.
What happens if I do not pass classroom instruction?
Those not passing the final exam must wait 10 days to retake the exam. They can utilize the time for additional study. They may take the exam at no additional charge.
Behind the Wheel
What is BTW?
BTW is behind-the-wheel driving instruction by a certified driving instructor. New Hampshire requires a minimum of 10 hours BTW as part of your drivers education course.
What happens if I miss a scheduled BTW?
You may cancel a BTW with more than a 24 hour notice with no penalty. If you do not show up or cancel with less than a 24 hour notice, you will be charged a no show fee of $50.00. When you miss a scheduled BTW class, you not only inconvenience the instructor you also inconvenience your drive partner and cost them their time behind the wheel.
How many BTW hours do I need?
You will need ten (10) hours of BTW with a certified driver education instructor, six (6) hours of observation with a certified instructor, and an additional forty (40) hours of practice time with a parent/guardian - ten (10) of the forty (40) hours must be at night.
Refund Policy
What are the refund policies?
Tuition may be paid in one payment or multiple payments by check mailed to 31 Cloudview Drive, Moultonborough, NH 03254. Full payment is due at the first class, student/parent orientation. Without full payment, the student's seat will be reassigned, and they will be required to reapply for a future class. All deposits are non-refundable and non-transferable. A student may change classroom sessions and may apply their deposit to that session. No reimbursement of tuition will be given upon completion of the second class. Refunds prior to the 2nd class will be prorated at $100.00 per hour completed.
What if my Drive'rs Education book becomes lost or damaged?
Every student will be provided a book at the beginning of the 30 Hour class. This book must be returned in the same condition at the conclusion of the class, or the student will be charged a $35.00 book replacement fee.
